As the old saying goes, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man, Healthy Wealthy and Wise”. This quote is not just sexist but also incomplete. Today neither are men or women going to bed early, nor are they waking up early, all they are seeking is wealth and wisdom. What about “health”? Out of the picture completely. Isn’t health the most important aspect of a person’s life? If you are healthy, it ‘biologically’ helps your brain function better and hence wise decisions can be taken and ultimately wealth can be earned! Thus this twist brings in a lot more ways of being healthy than just sleeping early and waking up early.

  • Drink lots of Water: Water, water everywhere yet no time to drink! Water is the best tonic to all health problems. From skin to stomach to weaknesses. Yet we tend to neglect the thirst for water and carry on with work. To remain healthy the first and foremost thing is to drink as much water as possible.
  • Don’t skip breakfast: There is a reason morning meal is called break-fast. Breaking the fast that was kept while sleeping is very important. Just a little extra time in the morning to grab a bite will not cost anybody a promotion. In fact a healthy breakfast provides the vitamins and minerals needed for good health.
  • Skipping meals not a way to diet: Skipping meals will not help lose weight but will lead to out-of-control hunger, which will ultimately result in overeating. And when hunger starts to byte, then even a snack between the meals can become an unhealthy meal.
  • A variety in food is a must: The human body needs more than 40 different nutrients for a good health. Just like no single person can have every quality similarly, no single food can supply all nutrients. The daily food should include bread and other whole-grain products; fruits; vegetables; dairy products; and meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods. And pills cannot substitute for the nutrients in food items.
  • Elimination is a big NO: Just because your favourite food has high fat content, you would eliminate it? The key is not elimination but control and moderation ofthe quantity eaten. Just eat it less frequently or in a smaller portion so that the intake of required nutrients won’t be eliminated. KFC won’t scare the health conscious experts anymore.
  • Attitude does matter: While gulping food between those busy schedules, we forget that the nourishment being taken is of utmost importance to our body and it needs to be thought about properly instead of blindly swallowing food for the sake of it.
  • Not size zero nor size XXXL-Just be active: Maintaining a healthy and perfectly balanced weight requires effort. The right weight depends on many factors like sex, height, age and heredity. What needs to be understood is that excess body fat increases chances of heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even some types of cancer. But being too thin can also lead to risk of osteoporosis, irregularities in menstrual cycle and other health problems. Hence being active is being healthy.
